Over the course of my career, I am frequently asked for recommendations on how individuals or groups can broaden their understanding of race in America and its impact on society and its people. Here is a list of my recommended books and podcasts that speak to the varied and difficult experiences of the Black experience in America.

For video content, there are some excellent videos on YouTube that will provide a perspective on systemic racism as well as inequities in the criminal justice system. I would recommend the following:

Combining archival footage with testimony from activists and scholars, director Ava DuVernay's examination of the U.S. prison system looks at how the country's history of racial inequality drives the high rate of incarceration in America.
